Lauric acid: also known as dodecanoic acid, a white needle-like crystal with the fragrance of laurel oil. Melting point 44 °c. Boiling point 225 °C (13.3×l03pa). Density 0.869g/cm³ (50°C). The refractive index is 1.4323 (45 °C). Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, benzene. Low toxicity. Lauric acid has many applications in plastic additives, food additives, fragrance industry, and pharmaceutical industry. It can also be used in the organic industry to make alkyd resins, lubricants, surfactants and other chemical additives. It is used in the light industry to make soap and detergent. The pesticide industry is used to make insecticides. It is used in the food industry to manufacture food additives. The daily chemical industry is used to manufacture cosmetics. It is used as a chemical reagent in analytical chemistry.
