Lauric acid: also known as dodecanoic acid, a white needle-like crystal with the fragrance of laurel oil. Melting point 44 °c. Boiling point 225 °C (13.3×l03pa). Density 0.869g/cm3 (50°C). The refractive index is 1.4323 (45 °C). Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, benzene. Low toxicity.
