Palmitic Acid

Features/Advantages

Palmitic acid is also known as: cetanoic acid, palmitic acid, molecular formula: C₁₆H₃₂O₂, molecular weight: 256.424. Appearance: White pearlescent scale-like solid. Insoluble in water, slightly soluble in petroleum ether, soluble in ethanol, soluble in ether, chloroform and acetic acid. Hexadecanic acid can be used as a precipitant, chemical reagent and waterproofing agent. Palmitic acid is an important raw material in the manufacture of odorless chloramphenicol and various palmitate metal salts. The sodium salt or potassium salt of palmitic acid can be used as an emulsifier in the polymerization of emulsions, and the sodium salt of palmitic acid is one of the main components of soap. Palmitic acid aluminium and zinc salts are used in lubricants, coatings, inks and plasticizers. Mixing palmitic acid with stearic acid in a certain proportion can give crystallized stearic acid products, which can be used in the cosmetics industry.
